Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing fourth graders, who deserve the very best! They are fun, energetic and creative, and I love to showcase their spectacular talents. The school where I teach is considered "high poverty," so some students do not have the same opportunities as others. Everyone qualifies for free lunch in the Title I program.

Despite our economic challenges, our community is very supportive and makes our little school a great place to learn!

Although my students are not diverse in race and background, they are all creative by nature and very different in the way they learn. Our urban school is located in a community that supports the arts, STEM, and extracurricular activities. Many students come into school looking forward to simple things like taking a photo, singing a song, or getting a hello from a friend. For some of them, this interaction is the only positive part of their day.

My Project

My students are very talented and technologically savvy. They have grown up as part of a digital generation and know the power of using media technology and the internet to deliver strong messages. With the video camera, microphones, lighting triggers, and batteries they will produce high quality HD videos that will be used as educational material for parents, community members, and other schools to enjoy. They will not only keep our community up to date on the happenings of our school but they will also create video tutorials for peers to help with difficult science and mathematics learning.

Student created informational and educational videos will be featured on our school website as a way to connect to our community and share learned concepts.

Collaborating and creating educational videos solidifies learning and helps students develop 21st Century, professional presentation skills. The scanner and external hard drive will complete this project by helping students scan student samples and create digital portfolios of their work. This archive of learning and videos will be inherited by every new class so student success builds. Thank you for any help that can be provided to equip my students with technology tools that propel them towards success.
