Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are mostly English language learners (Ells), students who have unique social, emotional, and academic needs based on their prior experiences.

We use different resources for working with special populations such as refugees, migrants, students with interrupted education, newcomer immigrants, who come from non-English-speaking homes and backgrounds.

My students require modified instruction in both the English language and native language, in their academic courses. These students are in need of the necessary materials to succeed, coming from a low income/high poverty school district. Despite having to face several challenges such as the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, our students come to school ready to learn and with high expectations.

It is my commitment to fulfill those expectations as much as I can, so they can receive an adequate reading instruction.

I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative ways to succeed in reading!

My Project

Due to the flooding during hurricane Harvey our old carpet got water damage and it is falling apart. We tried to clean it but most likely it has to be replaced.

To get the most out my whole class instruction, the students need to sit on a rug close to the teacher to get their full attention.

Having a gathering area, it is essential in my class because my 6 years old are learning how to listen actively and how to engage in a large group setting, which also helps them to develop social skills.

In addition to, reading and re-reading stories and poetry to children every day during reading time, is a way to develop a love of good books, learn new words, sounds, rhythms of language, and also to develop prediction and comprehension skills. Also, we gather on the rug not only for reading but math whole group instruction and other group activities!
