My Students

We are a Title I school and qualify for universal free breakfast and free lunch. But socioeconomic disadvantages will not stop us! We are eager to be future-ready, but we do not always have the resources available that we need.

Usually, my students visit the library with smiles on their faces and a joy for learning.

During library time, students check out books and gain library skills, but we also focus on building technology and social-emotional learning (SEL) skills.

Currently, we are unable to meet in person because of school closures due to coronavirus, though we hope we will be back to the new normal in the fall. We have more need than ever for up-to-date technology resources. Help us to maximize our abilities!

My Project

BBC Micro:bits are tiny, programmable computers that work using block coding. Specifically geared to students learning hands-on computing, Micro:bits are ideal for helping students to understand the connection between creating code and seeing a computer put their code into action. They are fun, interactive, and highly engaging. With a whole class set of Micro:bits, each student will have their own to work on, and we can avoid cross-contamination among shared materials.

Students can use these Micro:bits in numerous applications, gaining competency in computer science as well as demonstrating understanding in other disciplines.

From coding a song and playing it by hacking into headphones to coding correct answers to an "identify the parts of a book" quiz, Micro:bits have a wide range of possibilities. I have just completed a week of training in a variety of tech tools, and I am excited to put into practice the many lesson ideas I have ready.
