This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Book Clubs are all the rage! Studies show that students are more successful readers when they have access to self-selected materials. By using a book club format in class, students will have a choice of novels and can interact with each other in small groups with peers reading the same book.

My students are all 11th graders.

They attend one of the largest, most diverse high schools in New Jersey. They are bright and interesting teenagers and I would love to be the teacher they remember who introduced them to many different types of literature.

My Project

One of the most important aspects of a reading curriculum is variety and choice. Book clubs are an excellent way to introduce students to new books, while allowing them to explore what they are reading in a small group. Book clubs will help them learn responsibility, critical thinking, questioning, teamwork and many other important skills to help them develop a love of reading and leadership qualities. My students need 15 copies each of the novels "Book Thief" and "Thirteen Reasons Why" to read in a book club format in my classroom.

I have wanted to explore book clubs in my classroom for several years and they only thing preventing me is not having the funds to purchase several copies of the same novel for students to use in class.

If you choose to help with this project, book clubs will expose students to several different genres of literature.
