Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Creating college ready students through the use of creativity is my goal for my students throughout the school. My students come into my class afraid to create and let themselves be creative, I overcome this by finding projects that students get excited about working on!

My students are 9-12th grade high school students.

Most of my students come into my art class having never done art before and think they are not creative. I create a safe and fun learning environment for my students to foster their creativity. I always tell them we are humans and we are curious and creative by nature. Projects start out simply to encourage them and before they know it they are creating amazing and creative projects. My students even though are not going to be career artist are eager to learn and engage in what is happening in class. For most students it is their one fun class and escape from everyday life. My school is located in a low income area and all of your donations are greatly appreciated so that I am apply to get my students the supplies we need to create fun and interesting projects. My students love working with clay and wood on as many projects as they can as it is not normally an art material they get to use.

My Project

For this donation my students will use Super Sculpey clay to learn about character design in movies and video games. Students will create their own whimsical character based off of Dr. Seuss, modeled out of the super Sculpey clay. They will then be fired and painted with latex paint. The balsa wood will be used for two projects. The first project is called a line module project and students learn about how to use modules to create a wooden sculpture that is based off of the rhythm of their favorite type of music. Once all built the students paint the projects in colors that reflect that type of music. The second balsa wood project is used to teach students about architecture and what a job as an architect may be like. Students learn about architects using models to show clients what their building will look like. Students build their dream home using balsa wood and colored paper.

By donating to this project my students will be able to create three different project throughout the course of the year.

I design my classroom around common core, college and career readiness and creative skills that can be used in any career they choose to pursue once they have graduated. In a highly competitive job force that my students will be facing both after high school and college employers are looking for employees that can use creativity in their daily work day.
