Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My little S.T.E.A.M. enthusiasts love science and engineering. They are never as engaged as when they are given the opportunity to learn by exploring. Whether it is the Cardboard Challenge, chemical reactions, or frog dissection my students are ready for action!

My students' challenges are my challenges and although they may have learning disabilities, language challenges, and attention deficits they know they are capable of overcoming.

My mission is to find the "just right" activity that will have the maximum payoff. Their mission is to be open to explore and learn. Together we make the mission of learning possible.

My Project

There are studies that show that when students teach a concept to a peer or family member there is more long-term understanding. PowerMyLearning Family Engagement Innovators Program helps teachers connect the parent-teacher-student relationship to better support student learning. This program is designed to be meaningful homework by providing quality time while making learning a priority. Power My Learning makes their program accessible to all families by offering Family Playlists that are available in their home language. This is especially helpful to my students since the majority of them speak Spanish at home.

This “learning by teaching” strategy will not only impact student academic long-term learning, but it will also impact their social-emotional learning.

The goal for parents and teachers alike is to develop competent and effective communicators and with the help of PowerMyLearning, I hope to do just that.

This project has the potential to impact students outside of my classroom, as well. By helping my students reinforce their learning, build their confidence and become better communicators at least 100 other students at my school will be afforded the same opportunity. Once funded, PowerMyLearning is offering to provide the same opportunity to four other classrooms at my school.
