My Project

Brilliant. Creative. Inspiring. These are the words I would describe my students and not just the subject area I teach. Students at Bettye Davis East Anchorage High School (BDEAHS) are driven and determined to succeed in academics, sports, civics, and the arts; for many, math is just one tool in their toolbox. I teach Algebra 1, Calculus AB, and Calculus BC at the largest high school in Alaska. This year, I am team-teaching with an inclusion model to offer more Tier 1 instruction for students in Algebra 1!

Our classroom needs more supplies to improve our classroom thinking space with vertical learning in small groups.

Our vertical whiteboard space is used to visualize algebra and calculus while enhancing student discourse, teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. The easel whiteboards will be used for the spaces to fit all of our teenage thinkers in small groups!

For the biggest school in the State of Alaska, BDEAHS does a great job of creating classroom cultures of learning. In large class sizes, space and classroom layout is essential for reaching all students. These classroom supplies will create movement, erasable moments, and teamwork exercises to succeed in mathematics.

We will use erasable highlighters to recognize initial mistakes, the easels for students in stations, erasable pens for incentives, and clipboards for evaluating other student work.
