Students Hatching Chickens and Quail Eggs in the Classroom!

My Students

This is a very trying and stressful time during the pandemic. Keeping the children safe at school and feeling welcome is what I strive to do every day. We have many students at our school who attend both in-person and have virtual learning. Many students have had to switch at a moment's notice from in-person to virtual. Before winter break, our entire county went to "RED," we all had to teach and learn virtually. With the rising numbers of Covid in TN, we have to prepare each day to be ready to go "Red" again at any time. While we are in the classroom, I want to not only teach my student the standards and objectives but also learn about diversity in the world. We need to teach our students, understanding, empathy, and diversity. We need to learn about different cultures in our world and to love each other for who we are!

My Project

Every year my students learn about the Life Cycle of animals. I have brought both quail eggs and chicken eggs into our classroom for the students to further their studies by real, live action hatching of the eggs. We have the incubator and all the materials, but sometimes we miss the actual live, action birth of the baby due to us learning our lessons.

These 24 hour pet monitoring cameras will allow us to watch our hatching eggs in live, action real time so we can see our quail and chickens hatching and watch the miracle moment when they come out of their eggs!

This project will further our studies and allow us to read books and learn about both the quail and chickens even further through reading. Then we can add the real life hatching and watch as our baby quail and chicks hatch!
