My Students

Our high School is an urban school in Staten Island, New York that educates a diverse population. Many of my students face socio-economic, racial and financial problems. Many of the students live at or near the poverty line and one third of the population is special education.

Once you step foot into the building, you can understand how meaningful our Warrior mascot truly is.

Despite all these issues that our students face, the spirit of the school is to keep going and to warrior though problems that they may face.

Not only do the students fight through their own problems, but they also have a spirit of activism. The student body at our high school is one of the most welcoming and accepting student bodies in America.

My Project

Notebooks, pens, and highlighters are essential for students to succeed. These items are basic, but for low-income families, providing even these simple items can be a struggle.

By giving each student a notebook we take away the stigma that comes from asking for such a basic item.

Students will be organized, leaving their notebooks in the classroom. By providing pens each day, students who lost their pens will not have to interrupt the class by asking for a pen. The pens will be left in the front of the classroom.

Even though these items are basic, they are absolutely essential in helping our students reach their full potential.
