Students Beekeeping in the City

Help me give my students two 10 frame bee hives and some necessary equipment so they can learn about nature's most important pollinators.

My Project

With these hives and tools, my students will learn about the life cycle of one of Earth's most important animals. They will learn how to inspect the hive, check on the queen, and how to treat the hive for common pests and parasites.

Our gardening students have worked for the past three years creating a pollinator garden and this project will allow our students to see their own bees taking full advantage of the garden.

At the end of the summer we hope to harvest some of the honey and wax being mindful to leave plenty of honey for the bees as they endure the cold Chicago winters.
