My Students

In September, I will begin my first teaching job as a 9th and 11th grade English teacher at a regional high school in Western Massachusetts, which includes students from five surrounding towns. Due to restrictions resulting from Covid-19, my students and I will likely be working remotely from home throughout different parts of the school year, and will also be unable to share classroom supplies and materials. Despite these added challenges, I look forward to developing and fostering a warm classroom community that can extend to students’ homes as they shift to remote learning.

My Project

The upcoming school year will be challenging enough as a first-year teacher; however, with current Covid-19- related safety restrictions in place, it will be especially challenging to promote student collaboration that meets the guidelines of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. It is my hope; however, that with your help, I can support my students with a multitude of resources to craft engaging and innovative lessons while students are using my classroom for in-person learning.

The materials listed below: easel boards, markers, colored pencils, tape dispensers, and pencil holders will help me foster an organized, structured classroom to ensure that students can maximize the time spent learning in-person.

Similarly, items including patterned table cloths, a mirror, and wall borders will be utilized to brighten the bulletin boards and surrounding walls of my classroom. Additionally, as a white teacher teaching in a primarily white school, it’s important that my students see the achievements of individuals of racially diverse backgrounds through posters and other forms of media.
