Student Success with Sensory Support (Special Education)

Help me give my students the ability to regulate their emotions through tactile and large body movement supports including a tilt board, tent, Play-Doh and other materials.

My Project

In the SSC (student support center) I see an array of students with various needs and abilities. While some utilize this space as a calming environment for them to regulate and process emotions, others come to the SSC to have a much needed break from being overly stimulated in the general education setting.

The tilt board, tent, Play-Doh and other items I am wanting will provide both the learning environment for those that struggle academically as well as regulate the emotions of those that have inappropriate behaviors.

My students use sensory stimulation to regulate and process their emotions. This includes things like squeezing Play-Doh, coloring with markers, and feeling various textures on their hands. The ability to balance on a tilt board gives them the right/left brain connection and focus they need to complete a difficult task. Please help me support my students as the need is so great.

Along with this, many of my students do not have enough food at home to fill them up. They come to school hungry and receive most of their nutrients from food provided by the school. I like to keep snacks in my classroom to make sure students have necessary brain fuel to engage in the learning process.
