My Students

With an emphasis in standardized testing on reading and math, science oftentimes falls by the wayside for elementary students. However, it is playing an ever more important increasing role in today's world. I want my students to be prepared for that world!

My students are extremely curious and engaged with the world around them.

Interestingly, non-fiction, social studies, and science is oftentimes more interesting to them than fairy tales and fiction. They are often not exposed to different settings, places, or ideas --- but are extremely excited to be presented with new ideas and love to learn!

My Project

I'm requesting a complete set of science tubs that covers important science standards second and third graders should know. These tubs present scientific information in an engaging way and more importantly, offer hands-on experience to students who more often than not learn by doing. My students need that tactile experience and opportunity to learn through experiment and not just through a workbook or textbook. These materials give them that experience.

Statistics have shown that the U.S.

lags far behind other countries in the area of science. I truly believe that if we can engage elementary students early on -- through hands-on, tactile experiences, they will learn that science is not only highly important, but something they themselves can pursue as a career. Science is fun and exciting, not just a page in a workbook, and I want to instill that in my students!
