My Project

Nā moʻolelo (stories) is a communication tool used in all cultures. Moʻolelo printed in a variety of Hawaiian language newspapers of citizens living in Hawaiʻi is the driving tool for my 5th grade students at Kula Kaiapuni o Maui ma Pāʻia. Reading articles of Kanaka ʻŌiwi (Native Hawaiian) experiences in Hawaiʻiʻs history in the 17th and 18th century through an Indigenous lens are eliciting inquiry and research of resilience as my students compare the disposition of Kanaka ʻŌiwi of that time and their own experiences of resilience in the 21st century.

These items will provide creative ways for my students to create a wearable autobiography and 3-D student created product to share with their school, parents, and community at our ʻĀina Project Based Learning showcase day.
