Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I am a school social worker responsible for the mental health of 6-12th grade students. I aspire to provide a safe space where students feel comfortable to express their feelings and learn how to manage their mental health. The bean bag sofa, flower rug, and posters will provide a comfortable place for students to feel relaxed.

I also want to provide students a space to meet their basic needs (food, clothing, shelter) so that they have the opportunity to focus on their mental health and their education.

The snacks and drinks will allow for students to get their basic needs met.

The community my school is in has witnessed a lot of trauma and has been historically overlooked.
