My Students

Hello! I am the Psychiatric Social Worker for a middle school spanning grades 6-8 in Woodland Hills, CA. Our students are diverse, resilient, strong, bright, and beautiful! We are a Title I school, with the majority of our students coming from low-income households. Demographically, our students are minority-majority, with white students comprising only 10% of population. We are a safe, supportive and innovative learning community where students are inspired and valued as they master 21st Century skills. Our mission is to develop creative minds and critical thinkers who will pursue lifelong learning, ethical responsibility, and thoughtful global citizenship.

Many of our students are experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, social difficulties and other mental health struggles as we continue to collectively navigate the impact of Covid-19 in addition to a national reckoning on racial and social injustice.

With the return to campus this school year, our students are facing yet another challenging transition. With your help, we can create a welcoming space for them to decompress, share their feelings, and get prepared to take on their academic and social challenges.

My Project

As a Psychiatric Social Worker, I provide a safe space for students to come to when they are under stress and/or struggling socially, emotionally, and mentally. This year, that space is physically in a classroom, full-time, which I am so grateful for! However, I want to transform the room so that it feels less institutional and more like a welcoming, relaxing student lounge. I need your help to bring in safe, clean, and comfortable seating, fidget toys, therapy games, rugs, and more to make the room as inviting and calming as possible.

Thank you for helping me to create a space that helps students learn to cope with their emotions so that they can concentrate when they are in the classroom!
