Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Picture a group of kids who are growing up in homeless housing. That's my room. As one of the few states that guarantee family housing, our shelters are overflowing. The state has purchased temporary apartment housing near our school, and well over half of our population is in our area for a short, undetermined amount of time. They manage to be bright, funny, fun-loving, and really enjoy the safety and security school brings.
Our school not only keeps the kids safe, but it's a place where learning comes alive and is so fun!
My Project
At the request of my brilliant students, we've created a list of MUST reads by my 17 homeroom students. We love reading and do a lot of it every day at school and home - but our classroom and lending library is seriously lacking in graphic type novels, which have become a serious favorite.
During a class meeting, students worked together to design this list of book requests - their must haves, their dying to reads, their I started that and want to finish its - empowering reading through choice is a tremendous part of fostering a passion for reading.
We look forward to being able to add the I CAN NOT WAIT TO READ this books to our classroom library!
