Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from the heart of Bedstuy, Brooklyn. When they walk through the school doors, they walk in with a smile ready to learn, leaving everything else at the door. My students can be found enthralled in a book, discussing their wonderings and new things they have learned. Our school is comprised of students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles. We strive to provide high-quality education for all our students.

We firmly believe that every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is exposure or motivation and the right mindset.

The students in my class continually make an effort to improve in all aspects.

My class consists of 20 amazing students.

Of those 20, three are English learners. They all have a positive attitude and strive to do their personal best to contribute to our classroom community.

My Project

Children have been missing out on opportunities for social-emotional development and have not been getting the cognitive and social stimulation that they would normally get in a school setting. Added to this, the effect on the level of stress faced by children due to isolation from their friends and schools, sudden and extreme changes to their usual daily routines, and concerns about their own and their family’s health.

Creating an environment with flexible seating and elements that feel safe and bring comfort will be pivotal in dealing with some of the impacts the Pandemic has had on our children.

One day our children will be able to gain the skills to cope and rebuild their social-emotional skills. We have to help in any way we can. Giving them a place that is comforting and a choice that makes them feel part of a community is a start.
