My Students

Our school is made up of six kindergarten classes, and we are lucky to each have one class of 21 children. Our school population is nine percent ELL learners, and fourteen percent I.E.P students.

We currently have two awesome groups of five-year-olds, who come to school each day eager to learn and who are full of energy!

Our group of children enjoy learning through hands on activity. They love to move around, socialize, and learn! We are hopeful to inspire our earliest learners to continue a path of academic excellence!

My Project

The materials we picked will make a difference in our students' learning by having hands on learning in phonics, reading, writing, math, science and social studies. The kindergarten standards in NYC are very demanding for a 4-5 year olds. Children are expected to read, write, count and add.

Our classrooms are student-centered which promotes children to learn and still have fun in school.

Children love painting, drawing, and completing puzzles. As teachers we incorporate fun learning material into our lessons. Children can learn sight words through stories but also through puzzles. Children will be able to build sight words using different puzzle letter cards. The children can engage independently or in a group setting to complete a puzzle. The dot markers will be used during math to help the children count with quantity, and also they can create pictures with dot markers during art. The paint will be used during all subjects. Children love to paint and express through art. We will also use paint to learn about mixing colors. Children will paint with paint brushes or through finger paint. In kindergarten we focus a lot using different fine motor activities. Tearing paper and crumbling tissue paper is used for crafts, and it will also help the children strengthen their fine motor skills.

As a community, we strive to work collaboratively while keeping the focus on high quality work, using problem solving skills, and knowing who we are as learners and what we need in order to be successful. As teachers in the city with limited resources, these hands-on-learning materials will help us provide instruction and a positive learning environment to students who truly deserve it.
