My Students

I teach Art to students in Grades 1-5. This year, we opened an Art Room for the first time at our school. This was in collaboration with parents who raised funds to outfit the room. My students explore different media including drawing, painting, collage, watercolor and sculpture.

I teach in a Title I school in Brooklyn.

In 2012, we were awarded the National Blue Ribbon for Excellence. My students range from first to fifth grades. We have many students who high achievers as well as students with special needs. All of them are engaged in art classes and benefit from the higher level thinking associated with Art.

My Project

Each year our school has an Art Show highlighting student work. As the Visual Arts teacher, I am responsible for organizing and preparing the work for the exhibit. The students in my classes frame and title their completed work in order to have it displayed in the Art Show. To achieve this, we need close to one thousand frames to ensure that all work is presented in a professional way.

The students will see their work displayed in a gallery setting.

Between 750 and 1000 works will be exhibited salon style at the Spring Art Show. The exhibition will be a culmination of the students art studies for the 2014-15 school year. There will be an opening party for parents, an evening viewing for parents and children, and classes will visit the exhibit space with their teachers.
