This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are creative, knowledgeable, caring and overall very excited to learn. Being in a special education classroom means my students need various materials, equipment and resources to learn. My students work on academics, fine and gross motor skills, organizational skills and daily living skills. They love learning through hands-on activities, singing, dancing, playing and having fun. As their teacher, I want to provide them with the best opportunities to be successful in life! See the able, not the label!

My Project

Student and teacher supplies are needed....oh my! Yes, now that it is almost the end of the year we are beginning to run out of supplies. With every year my students and I grow quite a bit. We learn new techniques and effective ways to keep our classroom organized therefore we are needing some organizational supplies that surprisingly impact our classroom tremendously.

There are never enough...I repeat...never enough shoe bins in our classroom.

Shoe bins are used for things such as task boxes. We like to put small, little activities in these shoe boxes for the students to complete. Not only do we use them for task boxes, but for hygiene bins where all the students can store their toothbrushes, deodorant and other items. Each student also receives a shoe box to keep their extra set of clothing in case of accidents. As you can see they are always needed!

As I grow professionally I find myself creating a long list of "to dos". Each year I try to become more organized than I was the year before. With the use of the file folder bins and clear plastic boxes we will be able to separate worksheets, materials and manipulatives out to make them easily available when needed. These supplies are necessary to making sure we are using our academic time to its fullest potential instead of having to find worksheets and materials. My teaching assistant and I would greatly appreciate these materials in helping us become more organized.

Lastly, I wanted to include some new academic toys and resources for our students. I included kinetic sand, magnetic letters, sight word activity games and vocational toys. All of these toys will help increase my students' academic progression and vocational skills.
