I teach students in grades K-5, to learn to read in Reading Intervention. I love teaching struggling readers and have been doing so for over 30 years.
I have worked with many of my students for years, so I know them well and I get so excited to see them make progress in reading.
Seeing them learn to love reading brings the greatest joy! I believe they can get tired of seeing the same manipulatives so, the following is meant to help you understand how important it is to keep my students engaged in learning so that they can become the best readers and learn to love reading!
These students often make growth but then, with summer, they slide back and they need to be retaught what they've already learned. Often, finding new ways to teach alphabetic, and phonics skills can be difficult. With the sand, which will be used for sand trays for students to practice writing letters will help them be engaged with multisensory learning. The magnetic letters and magnetic whiteboards will also help to keep them engaged with more tactile learning which will help the remember skills they've learned.
The phonics kits/games, that include different spelling patterns, will help me teach them using our Orton-Gillingham sequence and strategies. Using the same materials year after year can become boring. The kits will bring some fun into my student's learning!
The wagon will be used to help transport many of these materials and other student materials to their classrooms and to the hallway, where I often teach at a table. When there is enough time, we are able to bring them back to the Intervention Room. This wagon will be used for 75% of my groups.
Thank you for your consideration! I look forward to seeing my students grow!
