My Students

My students are genius. They come in with a wealth of knowledge and experiences. Not all walk in with a positive math identity, but I make it my mission to help them realize that we all are mathematicians. My students are open, kind, silly, and brilliant. They want to make the world a better place for everyone where we all uplift one another. They inspire me to do my best everyday.

My Project

An oft ignored skill in education is cultivating strong visual-spatial reasoning skills in our students. The ability to manipulate objects in your mind is linked to success in the STEM field such as a neurosurgeon being able to navigate brain surgery from a 2-D computer image to the actual brain and engineers being able to design stable buildings and bridges.

Students can increase their visual-spatial reasoning skills in a fun way through games!

In the Common Core Geometry class, students must be able to transform objects by reflecting, rotating, or translating. Students must also be able to find volumes and surface areas of 3-D figures, which requires visual-spatial reasoning skills to decompose more complicated figures. These games will be used for warm-up time to prime our students' minds before engaging with the lesson.
