This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school garden club has been a labor of love, growing more vibrant each year thanks to DonorsChoose supporters. This year, we're focusing on the foundation of any successful garden - the soil. Quality soil is essential for healthy plants, and that's exactly what our students need to take their gardening projects to the next level.

The FoxFarm Strawberry Fields soil is specifically designed for flowering and fruiting plants, which will help our students grow beautiful flowers and nutritious vegetables with better success rates.

The Happy Frog potting soil, with its balanced pH and beneficial microbes, will give our container plants the perfect environment to thrive. These premium soils will help our students understand the science behind plant growth while significantly improving our garden's productivity.

Our goals for this project include:

- Teaching students about soil science and its impact on plant health

- Improving our garden's yield to share more produce with our school community

- Helping students understand the connection between soil quality and food production

- Building confidence through successful growing experiences

What makes our students special is their dedication to our school garden. From grades 3-6, they commit their time and energy to maintaining our garden spaces, eagerly sharing their knowledge with younger students, and taking pride in growing food and flowers that beautify our school. They understand that good soil is the key to a thriving garden, and they're excited to see how these premium materials will transform our growing spaces.

With these quality soils, our students will have the tools they need to become even better gardeners and environmental stewards. They'll learn valuable lessons about patience, responsibility, and the importance of building strong foundations - both in gardening and in life.
