This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Did you ever go to school wishing you had a new book bag or new folders? I fear that happening to my students all the time. With 25 students in my class, I always have students that do not have the basic school supplies.

I have the most amazing students.

Coming from homes with little to no income, I have 25 students in my classroom that will not have the basic school supplies. With these students, I am fortunate to see resilience. Unfortunately, with budget cuts our opportunities to purchase supplies has become a problem. These students come from very poor families, and having school supplies is an opportunity for them to feel successful, these students are very motivated! Having come from all over the world, their enthusiasm and cultural background shines through in their motivation. Giving my students the opportunity to feel successful is my number-one goal. However, without basic supplies it can be challenging.

Having the basic supplies of folders, markers and erasers gives the students a whole world of opportunities. You would be amazed at the work I see when students are given the opportunity to just have basic school supplies. The first day of school their faces light up when they see they have their basic school supplies. It's really amazing what basic school supplies can do for a child.

Coming from homes where they have nothing, I like to think my classroom is a sanctuary for my students.
