My Students

I have had the pleasure of working at a school with great students, many who are voracious readers. However, their reading skills vary greatly and at times I struggle on how to address their each and every need. I would love to spend some time learning on how to better meet all of their needs!

I have been working in the field of education for a few years now, but I still have plenty to learn!

My first couple years I explicitly taught Math and Science. However, I have been a 5th grade Classroom Teacher for the past couple years and ELA doesn't always come to me as easily as the other subjects. I would really love to work on ways to better teach ELA to my students, however time and money don't always permit me to do this.

My Project

I am requesting the funds to attend a week-long Reading Institute at Columbia University's Teacher's College this summer. Throughout this program I hope to be able to learn how to better develop and carry out Reading and Writing Workshop within my classroom. With the skills acquired from this workshop my students will ultimately become more literate and advanced readers and writers!

Attending this workshop will help me become a better teacher of both Reading and Writing to my students.

I hope to be able to teach them how to become more literate and build on their fluency as well as their comprehension skills. In addition, hopefully this will help to instill a love of reading for all of my students to come!
