My students love music!I teach instrumental music to 6th, 7th and 8th graders in a middle school. The population of is primarily Asian and are low-income--95% of the students in the school qualify for free lunch. The program is growing and we need more instruments to form a complete orchestra. We need a 3/4 size cello because some of our students are not tall enough to play on a full-size cello.

Our school is experiencing big budget cuts. We were just cut $250,000 and will be having more cuts in the budget next year. There is no money to spare right now for musical instruments. There are approximately 170 students enrolled in the music program. Right now the kids are sharing one instrument to every three students. We need more instruments so that each student can have his or her own instrument to practice with on weekends, holidays, etc. We also have some students who are not big enough to play on full-size instruments.

Our program is growing! More kids are asking me if they can sign up for music. Basically we need more string instruments. A donation of a 3/4 size cello would enable more students to take music classes and will enable the younger (smaller) students to have the opportunity to learn the cello. In addition, the more instruments we can get, the less sharing of instruments and more students will be able to take instruments home to practice.

Every little bit helps! You will help by ensuring that more students can take music classes and have the experience of performing in an orchestra. Your donation will provide the younger kids with a smaller instrument so that they can take cello lessons. And more students will be able to take an instrument home to practice.
