Help Mr. Robinson

I have been teaching string orchestra for 26 years. It is an exciting program because I teach a variety of music on violin, viola, cello, and double bass including what students hear on the radio. Our program was so exciting last year that my students were featured on the school system's television station. Not only was I interviewed, but two of my former students were as well: one is a string teacher and another is a jazz violinist. Parents were giving testimonies on there as well. Last but not least, the principal also spoke highly of the program. Last year the students performed at a mall and the state capital in addition to several area schools.

My school is certainly in a "high need" community where many students come from low- and no-income family households and cannot afford to rent or purchase instruments. New students have shown an interest after seeing a demonstration I gave them on Career Day before the end of last school year. I am requesting four violin outfits, 3/4 size for the students to use during the school year, return to the school, and for others at the school to use them the following year.

Their involvement may help them do well in their academic subjects. It can certainly keep them out of trouble. Their self-esteem is likely to be uplifted because they will learn songs in such a short time period. This confidence can transfer to all of their school subjects. Many of them may make the school honor roll as well as score higher on standardized tests. Most of all, they will feel good to make beautiful music whether in a concert setting or at home.

They are likely to look forward to coming to school each day this class is held. They are likely to score higher on standardized tests than those who are not in this program. They are more likely to continue through high school and will prepare to go to college. Some of them may want to major or minor in music in college and possibly teach.
