This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have approximately 120 students from poor socioeconomic backgrounds. The racial makeup of my students is 95% African American and 5% Caucasian. Many of my students come from homes where parents do not have college educations.
Our school seeks to ensure that all students are on the path to being college and career-ready by graduating.
However, this isn't easy because many students read far below the national average. To create more significant opportunities for success, we strive to create exciting and engaging lessons that students find compelling.
My Project
Our students have had a pretty stressful academic journey since March 2020, from school closing early, attending school for a year virtually, and coming back to school only to realize that they are even further behind and being stressed from things that they do not share with anyone.
There are many benefits of yoga.
It helps increase balance, relieves anxiety and stress, improves concentration, and develops discipline and self-control. Yoga will be introduced to the students to empower and enhance their well-being and build relationships. Our students need to be taught how to coordinate their bodies and mind and relax. I am excited to watch our students grow through this yoga journey.
