A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students need ways to relieve the emotions that run through their veins through a visual time, stress balls, audio input and noise blocking resources. They require supports to help them achieve success that most of us take for granted.
My students have abilities that separate them from the general population, yet they are expected to conform to society's expectations and boundaries in and out of the academic classroom.
Our school has a population of more than 1600 diverse teenagers from different cultures and socio-economic status with the same goal in mind; to enter life after school as a productive member of society.
My Project
The amazing program at our school is a pilot program for our county and therefore, our resources are slowing growing. The items requested will be used daily and will allow my students to have a safe place to be themselves and help them feel 'society's normal' without fear of judgment.
We need sensory processing materials - a timer, headphones, fidgets and ball reflex - to help them interpret the world around them with minimal distractions. The resources we are requesting include auditory, visual and tactile sensory processing aids for students including headphones, a visual timer and stress balls with different textures. With these items, the students I teach will be able to manage everyday stressors in a way which is soothing to them.
The headphones will allow them to focus only on their assignment without background noise to block out while working.
The sensory balls will give them a way to relieve the daily stress that builds up throughout the day. The timer will given them a visual when working to better understand the amount of time needed/provided for a given task.
