My Students

My students are really special to me for many reasons. I have a wonderful group of students who come from diverse backgrounds that make them unique. Being engaged in their own learning is crucial for ensuring their success. Many of my students are unable to bring in their own school supplies. I know that they learn best through active and meaningful experiences that they can connect across the content areas and to their own experiences.

I know my students' learning style and that learning by doing is essential for them because it is so highly motivating.

Unfortunately, most of the enriching experiences my students encounter are within the school walls because my students live in high poverty situations. An organized learning environment is essential in order for my students to be able to create freely! My students deserve to learn in the best way possible and that is providing the most welcoming atmosphere is extremely important. I believe that providing them with the materials they need aides in their success.

My Project

Research states that hands-on, sensory activities calm nerves. My students are state testing this year for the first time in two years, due to the pandemic. After the trying year that we have had, learning six feet a part behind plexiglass, we are still standardized testing. I feel confident that my students have learned and grown tremendously this year. I want their stress levels to be low going into testing because what they know is not defined by a test score.

My students have remained resilient and continued to learn during this trying school year; I do not want them stressing and worrying as testing approaches.

The sensory toys and activities that I have added to this project will help calm nerves. Test anxiety is a real thing and it hurts my heart to watch children feel this. My students are amazing individuals. I know that they will do their best on testing and I want them to have fun as we review and to stay calm as we prepare.
