My Students

We are an elementary school located in Richmond, Virginia. Low-income families make up 97% of our population. Students are below the state averages in testing.

My students come from struggling households with primarily one parent or grandparent as the caregiver.

Many students not only struggle in the community but also in the classroom. My students need many resources and hands-on activities to give them the background knowledge to be able to learn on grade level. We are learning and growing every day.

My Project

During this time in history, education is being innovated to fit the needs of all students. My school district will be teaching virtually for the first semester of the 2021-21 school year for the safety of both students and teachers. As a teacher there is a certain amount of excitement and also stress when setting up a virtual classroom. There are so many obstacles we must hurtle to make this year enjoyable for our students.

In our classroom, we establish many strategies in dealing with stress.

Providing students, with the tools to use at home, will prove invaluable during our virtual sessions and help with maintaining a mindful learning experience.
