My Project

Learning to read is supposed to be an empowering, inspiring time in a young person's life, but for too many elementary students this is not the case. The literacy manipulatives and supplemental teaching resources in this project have been carefully chosen as part of the Orton Gillingham (OG) approach to teaching reading. The Science of Reading research indicates that a multi-sensory, explicit approach to reading instruction will help all students develop the life-long skills they need to be successful and literate adults.

Whether my students are neurodiverse or neurotypical, fluent English speakers or learning to speak English, supported at home or pursuing their reading journey independently of home support, they all have the potential and desire to be successful in their academic journey.

By contributing to this project you are supporting my ability to provide targeted instruction that engages the mind and body of upper elementary students who have not yet felt the confidence and power that strong literacy skills can provide! Second through fifth graders will have the opportunity to practice multisyllabic routines using tools that make learning and the reading patterns more explicit, and the novelty of the items will keep them interested and excited about their learning. By supporting this project you are helping ensure that all students have access to quality reading instruction that is based on the latest educational research!
