Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are part of our unified school district that helps students build the social and academic skills to help prepare them for a bright educational future. This program gives children from all cultures, areas, and various incomes an opportunity to learn and thrive within the district. My energetic preschoolers enter the classroom ready to learn, discover, and explore.

This year is going to be very different for my students as they will do all of their learning through the virtual platform.

I want to provide some type of normalcy for my students so that when we return in person, the transition will be easy for them. I have introduced nursery rhymes to my students. Every week they learn a new nursery rhyme to help encourage early reading skills and a love for literature.

They love to count, write their names, identify letters and sounds, draw pictures, build structures, and pretend play in the dramatic play area throughout the day. In the art area, the students love to use their imagination to create, draw, and make things. They love to try new things with their hands.

They shine with light as they proudly identify letters and discover sounds and numbers.

My Project

I am working on helping my students learn the skill of reading and while doing so, I want to help them gain the necessary skills to support their comprehension skills. This can only be done by providing the students with their own book to use while I am teaching the necessary comprehension strategy skills. My intentions are to do a read-aloud while the students follow along with me using their own text. At this time, all of our sessions are on the computer and in order for the students to know how to become better readers, they need to have their own text to follow along while I read.
