My Students

"Fair isn't everybody getting the same thing...fair is everybody getting what they need in order to be successful." As a special education teacher, my students each have different needs that I must help meet with the necessary tools. Each tool may be different for each individual student.

I teach Math to a wonderful bunch of 6th grade students.

Throughout the day, I teach students in Integrated Co-Teaching classrooms, as well as a self-contained classroom, with students that have Individualized Education Plans. As the transition to Junior High may be difficult, I want the students to have all the necessary skills to succeed. Each student this year has specific goals and the potential to meet them. Now I need to give them the tools to help them achieve their goals.

My Project

I am requesting materials to help my students improve their multiplication skills. My students need to master multiplication in order to succeed in the 6th grade curriculum. The items I have requested will allow the students to practice these skills in an exciting way. The students will be able to assess themselves and challenge their classmates. I am also requesting items to help my students focus and concentrate. These are items that are socially accepted for the students to use in the classroom, such as the Desk Buddy and Bouncy Bands to help them focus and channel their energy. These items will provide sensory input to help improve focus and concentration, as well as relieve their anxiety, hyperactivity, or frustration. I am requesting numerous different items to help achieve this, because as my quote says, "Fair isn't everybody getting the SAME thing." My students are each individuals with individualized needs.

These items will help my students improve their math skills and channel their energy.

Currently, some of my students are embarrassed if they do not know their multiplication facts. These items will help them learn and succeed in the curriculum this year and beyond. Also, some of my students are fidgety, which is making them lose track of the task at hand. These items will help them stay focused and use their energy to focus on Math.
