My Project

Our learning strategies class is a specialized program designed to support 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students with behavior and learning disabilities who have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This class focuses on teaching students effective techniques for learning, organizing, studying, and managing their academic responsibilities across all subjects. The primary goal is to help these students develop the skills they need to succeed academically and eventually become independent learners.

The specific items we are requesting for our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade learning strategies classroom are carefully selected pieces of furniture designed to create independent work areas.

These items will make a significant difference in our students' learning by providing them with dedicated spaces that cater to their individual needs. Having designated areas for independent work will allow students with behavior and learning disabilities to focus better, reduce distractions, and develop crucial self-management skills.

Moreover, these new furniture pieces will give students something to look forward to, enhancing their motivation to come to class and engage in learning activities. We are also aiming to establish a classroom store, which will serve as a powerful incentive system. Students will have the opportunity to earn "currency" through good grades and positive behavior, which they can then use to shop at the store.

This project has several key goals: to create a more structured and supportive learning environment, to improve student focus and independence, to boost motivation and engagement, and to reinforce positive behavior and academic achievement through the classroom store concept. What makes our students special is their resilience in facing daily challenges related to their learning and behavioral disabilities.
