My students are eager to learn. They participate in class discussions with enthusiasm. They vary in academic levels but they try their best to succeed. Although they all come from different backgrounds, they work well together and enjoy learning about the world. For some of them, their financial status makes it difficult for them to have easier access to books, resources, and materials to be successful in school. At least half of them really struggle in reading, math, and/or writing. I have several students with speech deficiencies, and learning disabilities. Therefore, some of them perform below-grade level compared to their peers. My high-achieving students can also benefit from extra resources. They enjoy challenges and they are always willing to learn new concepts.
My Project
I am planning to use these materials to help students during small reading groups, intervention groups, and as a whole-class instruction. In third grade, students are reading to understand. In order to build comprehension, they need a variety of skills to build comprehension. The books I selected will help them with help them learn how to use context clues, make inferences, and build deeper understanding of the text. The books include interesting topics in various genres to engage them in reading. The book levels are appropriate for my students. Some of them need the additional support which is why I selected some from 2-3 level.
