My Project

Stranger Things is one of the most popular shows amongst my students and when I told them I read a few of these books this summer, the were beyond excited about this project. My student librarians all voted that we attempt this project.

The Stranger Things books in this project are all based off of the back stories from a popular TV show amongst my students and range in difficulty making them ideal for reading instruction.

The Science Camp and Erica books are graphic novels with exciting plots, detailed, colorful illustrations and are around 550 Lexile level, making them accessible even to students reading below grade level.

The Max, Lucas, and Robin chapter books are 910 Lexile, 780 Lexile, and 830 Lexile making them excellent choices for our Fun Friday Sixth grade Guided Reading groups.

These books are cleverly written to be suspenseful, fill in back stories for beloved characters, and the additional copies will be favorites of my current sixth grade students and my alumni 7th and 8th grade students who will also have an opportunity to check these books out from our shared libraries.

The book about Max is already being requested by many girls in our school. The books about Lucas and Erica show excellent representation for children of color. The majority of my students are students of color and seeing characters who are reflections of themselves in popular culture and in our class library and guided reading selections is important for them.
