My Students
We are an urban school located in Rego Park, Queens. My students' multicultural backgrounds enrich our classroom community. They love to engage in conversations about their studies using critical thinking and creativity to challenge each other academically.
Growth mindset is a key component of our class and students can often be heard supporting and encouraging each other through their words and actions.
During their last year in elementary school, my fifth grade students work hard to prepare for the transition to middle school. Additionally, throughout our journey together, they also grow as kind, determined and confident individuals.
My Project
My fifth grade students become excited about reading when they receive their Storyworks magazine! With each new issue, they are exposed to a variety of genres, differentiated to meet their needs. This allows each student to feel successful. By using this resource in my classroom last year, I saw students’ reading levels and confidence soar! The digital and audio components, as well as the English Language Learner resources, allowed every type of learner to access the rich vocabulary and content of the magazine. Students loved reading classic myths and fables; plays and engaging fiction and non-fiction stories. Storyworks Magazine truly prepared my students for Middle School.
