My Students

The first graders in my class this year are *thrilled* to be together for in-person learning and they hope to remain in person throughout the year for the best school experience possible!

A diverse group of learners, this crew is creative, patient, eager and attentive.

Though over 80% of these students spent their Kindergarten year learning virtually, they are adjusting well to the classroom setting as we've begun the school year 2021-2022.

My Project

Great teaching includes establishing an emotional connection to learning, developing the physical learning environment, designing the learning experience, and teaching for the extension and application of knowledge.

A tactile experience with small props and figures that connect to the core texts in our ELA curriculum will increase engagement and build excitement in my first grade classroom!

For example, when I introduce "Me...Jane" (a children's book telling the true story of Jane Goodall), students will see a miniature chicken coop, where Jane first learned the power of observation. They'll cuddle with a stuffed chimpanzee, just like Jane's stuffed chimp, Jubilee. They'll pass around sea shells and watercolor paints and a miniature tent similar to where Jane stayed when studying chimpanzees in Africa!
