Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a special education resource teacher I have the pleasure of working with all my students in small groups. These small groups make it possible to form an incredible learning community where each learner is being met exactly where they are and taken as far as they can go!

I work with Preschool through first grade students who are receiving specialized instruction for their learning differences.

Many of my students have experienced trauma or have lived in poverty during their very early years. This means they have missed some foundational skills. Our school works everyday to fill these gaps in our students' knowledge. Thank you in advance for helping our students' reach their goals!

My Project

As a resource teacher I work primarily with small, mixed age groups. Most of these children are not yet reading independently. The story books and white board requested in this project will be used to engage these emergent readers in well-loved stories and beginning writing activities. While I read my students the requested books I will use the white board to represent the story with pictures and words. These pictures and words will act as a visual support for my learners. After reading the story, I will use the white board to model writing story questions and answers. Additionally, students will use the white board to work on interactive writing activities during which they will summarize the stories' main idea.

Shared storybook readings are an important bonding, educational experience for all young children.

These early literacy experiences create a solid groundwork for a later love of learning and academic success.
