My Students

The 3 year old students who attend our school are some of the most amazing children I have ever met. They live in one of the most dangerous communities in our nation's capital. Every day they walk down a hill to school where they are able to escape the violence that riddles their neighborhood. They attend a Title I school where 100% of the population receives free lunch. While my students can't always leave their problems at the front door, they come through the front door to a school family that is ready to support them academically, emotionally, and physically.

My Project

This storage unit will help ensure that our students have the clothes they need for success. At three years old, many of my students still have accidents during the school day. Whether it be a bathroom accident or milk spilling accident, my students need to store a change of clothes for success at school.

No one can focus and learn when they're clothing is soaking wet and we want to make sure every child has a place to store a change of clothes for success.

Currently we have no where to store a change of clothes for students and they are left in the student's book bag. However, if the child forgets their book bag they are left without a change of clothes. This leaves students sitting cold, wet, and often smelling until someone brings them a change of clothes or they go home.

This storage unit will allow for each child to have a clean cubby to store their change of clothes in for when they need it. It will allow for me as a teacher to quickly see who still needs a change of clothes so I can communicate it parents the need for the change of clothes. It will also allow for a place to store extra changes of clothes that have been donated to the classroom for when students are in need of them.
