This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I model, model, model and then model some more.

I model every little thing: hand washing, lining up, putting materials away, etc. Then I have my students’ practice.

Over seventy five percent of my students are English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Their parents are from various countries. I love the eagerness that I observe in my students when they are presented with visuals and hands on learning. This is special to me because I enjoy impacting the lives of children in a positive way. They are receptive and willing to learn new things.

My Project

Nap time is part of the learning experience for children. My class needs the storage cabinet for their mats and blankets in order to teach routine. Classroom naps can enhance memory and support learning in preschool children. It also helps educators make informed decisions about allotting time for naps in preschool. When you’re tired, you can’t function at your best. Sleep helps you think more clearly, have quicker reflexes and focus better.

As children transition out of nap time gradually, my (non-nappers) put away any quiet activities.

Then we quietly move around the space and gently begin to wake children that are napping. Children are taught a routine for awakening and for putting away nap materials. Routines help influence a child’s emotional, cognitive, and social development. It helps children feel secure and understand expectations. Routines also reduce behavior problems and can result in higher rates of child engagement.
