My Project

These funds are for storage containers for the Masterman Science Olympiad Team. Julia R Masterman is a grades 5-12 public, magnet school in the School District of Philadelphia. We serve an extremely high preforming, diverse student body that all qualify for free & reduced price lunch.

For those who don't know what Science Olympiad is, it is a STEM competition in grades 5-12.

It's bit like a track meet but instead of students running, jumping, etc. They are taking tests, building devices and competing in mini-STEM competitions. These might include things like building a plane out of balsa wood that can stay airborne the longest or identifying fossils. The subjects are sometimes outside of the usual depth and subject matter of a K-12 classroom. The events also change from year to year.

Our team has been growing over the last few years & achieving record success. We qualified for the state tournament for the first time ever 2 years ago & were the first team ever in the school district of Philadelphia to earn a 1st place standing at states. So with that success more students are interested, so we need more equipment.

While we have secured funding for a lot of the equipment we need, we are needing of storage solutions since we also have to buy new equipment for the new students & new events. We are practically tripping over stuff in the room we work out of.

We appreciate any & all funds that can be given.
