This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 5th grade English Language Arts at a Title I school in the Bronx, New York. The majority of my students come from economically disadvantaged households. The students in my class have a wide range of learning styles, interests, strengths and weaknesses, and backgrounds. Despite their many unique qualities, one thing that my students have in common is a strong desire to learn that is sometimes hindered by a lack of resources.

Although, every day they are faced with many challenges both in and out of their homes, they come to school eager to learn.

My students are creative, funny, hardworking and determined to do their best! These kids face many difficulties including taking responsibilities beyond their ages yet when they arrive to school they are just like any kids filled with a passion to learn more about the world.

My Project

It is only the middle of the school year and we are already in need of some of the basics such as pencils, erasers, etc. We will be using these materials mainly for their creative interactive reading notebooks. We are also in need of tissues, Clorox wipes, some classroom organizational resources that will help make our classroom comfortable and healthy for learning.

A well-run classroom is dependent on supplies being available and organized efficiently and effectively.

Our students have different ways of learning and we need various school supplies and materials that will provide them with opportunities to express what they know. Basic supplies such as pencils, glue, construction paper, rulers, and a pencil sharpener are necessary to carry out innovative lessons that will engage students to become active learners. Having the supplies needed will surely contribute to each child's success in their learning and is necessary to implement this type of instruction.
