My fifth grade students attend their neighborhood school where many of them receive free lunch and come from families that speak a language other than English. Our school qualifies for Title I funding, and about 35% of our students receive English as a second language instruction. My Project
My students use Post-It notes regularly in the classroom to jot down their ideas, display them around the classroom, and to remember important ideas they want to discuss with others.
When students have a chance to collaborate with their peers and grow their ideas, they become more motivated and engaged.
All of the students in my class benefit from working together and learning from others. They use Post-its through out the day in all subject areas to jot their thinking and flag things they think will be important later. Having this variety for students will inspire them to take ownership of their learning and have agency to talk about the things that are important to them. The possibilities are endless with Post-Its!
