My Students

Chemistry is an amazing way to understand the world around us. We spend our days in class asking questions, exploring phenomena, and figuring out how to connect observations and evidence with our ideas.

My chemistry students are juniors and seniors, planning to go to college or university after they graduate.

They are eager to learn, and working hard to absorb the concepts of chemistry. Many of them will be the first college students in their family. At our school, 70% of the students are at or below poverty level, which means they have not had outside opportunities to explore science. My students are serious and committed about their learning and their goals.

My Project

Our chemistry room has not been updated in a couple decades. The resources we have are well cared for, but basic items like glassware and Bunsen burners get broken or well used as time goes on. Restocking this basic equipment will help students participate in weekly labs safely. Having a full set of working equipment means that all students have a chance to explore chemistry, rather than being grouped in larger teams.

Supporting this project directly supports low-income students who are working to go to college.

Supporting this project supports their families, who are also eager to see these students grow and achieve great things. Supporting this project directly supports my work with these students by giving me the resources to do great projects with them.
