My Project

I am truly inspired by the enthusiasm and curiosity that my senior students bring to our AP Statistics class. Their dedication to learning and their diverse perspectives create a vibrant and dynamic learning environment. As they wrap up their twelve years of schooling, keeping them engaged in learning until graduation is our goal. In our classroom we use the EFFL approach: Experience First, Formalize Later. Our class is centered around statistics activities meant to hook students into lessons and create an engaging and fun learning environment.

Active participation is another cornerstone of activity-based learning and in our class, activities encourage students to participate actively in discussions, problem-solving, and data analysis.

This dynamic involvement not only sustains their interest throughout the learning process but also contributes to a more effective internalization of statistical concepts.

A few of the activities we study:

Can you taste the (skittles) rainbow? (They usually cannot!)

Which gummy bear brand has a better distribution of colors?

What is the probability of Hershey Kisses landing flat?

These simple questions lead to amazing discussions and lessons while providing hands-on opportunities for students to apply statistical concepts in real-world scenarios, promoting a deeper understanding of the material.
