My Project
The specific items I'm requesting will make a difference in students learning by allow them to engage in hands-on exploration of quilting, crocheting, and felting techniques. Students will learn not only the technical skills required for these crafts but also their historical and cultural significance. By working on both individual and collaborative projects, they’ll develop critical thinking, creativity, and a deeper understanding of storytelling through art. A few of the materials I’m requesting—fabric, batting, thread, yarn, crochet hooks, wool roving, and felting needles—will welcome my students into the vibrant world of fiber arts.
My goals are to cultivate students’ curiosity about fiber arts, foster their creativity, and empower them to express their voices through large-scale fiber art projects.
These projects will connect personal narratives and social themes while celebrating the histories of fiber traditions. By the end of the project, students will gain technical skills, a stronger sense of cultural awareness, and an appreciation for the power of art to inspire change and build community.
My students are an inspiring group of young artists from diverse backgrounds. They are curious, thoughtful, and passionate about using art as a tool for self-expression and storytelling. What makes them truly special is their commitment to exploring how art connects people and communicates ideas. They aren’t just creating for the sake of beauty—they want to make an impact, share their perspectives, and engage with their community. With the right resources, their creativity has no limits.
