The EMPOWER Program is designed to support high school students who internalize their emotions which often appear in school resistance by fostering growth in academic, executive functioning, social-emotional, and self-advocacy skills. My students are remarkable individuals, each working towards earning their high school diplomas while navigating personal challenges. What makes them special is their resilience and determination to succeed, despite the obstacles they face.
One of the most EMPOWERing aspects of independent living is the ability to create and mend one’s own clothing.
I am requesting sewing supplies to teach my students essential skills that promote both creativity and practicality. By learning to sew, they will be able to make and repair their own clothing, boosting their confidence and helping them gain a sense of accomplishment through tangible results.
The goal of this project is to provide hands-on experiences that not only teach students practical sewing techniques but also encourage them to express themselves through design. These sewing supplies will help my students develop fine motor skills, problem-solving abilities, and a strong sense of ownership over their work. These are critical skills for their future independence and self-confidence.
